Eiffel Tower by night2010 Europe Trip    Following Rob's heart attack in November 2009 our trip to Europe in April, May 2010 looked in doubt until we received clearance from the cardiologist and doctors that overseas travel would be OK. Medieval Village of Montone, Italy In addition we were able to get travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions from ANZ.   Our trip this year will be relaxed and casual rather than a rush around whistlestop trip.  First of all 9 days in Paris in an apartment living like the locals, then off to Italy with the first stop being Lake Como in the North of Italy for 4 days.  After Lake Como we travel to Umbria for 3 weeks staying in a medieval walled village of Montone where we spent three months in 2006.   We are looking forward to our return to Montone as friends, Luke and Allison that we met there in 2006 are living there for 12 months with their 3 children.   From Italy we travel to the United Kingdom and Ireland for 4 weeks visiting Liz's sister and her husband who are living in Wells, Somerset.

Our apartment in Piazza Fortebraccio, Montone, ItalyEurope/Italy 2006 Trip  Our 2006 trip will be something entirely different from our round Australia expeditions when we venture to Europe spending two weeks travelling through England and Scotland before heading across to Paris for a few days. We pick up a new Peugeot 307 Sports Station Wagon in Paris and spend a week travelling across to Italy where we will spend 10 weeks in a small village called Montone.  Montone is a medieval village in northern Umbria, in the heart of medieval Italy, about 220 kms north of Rome.  Founded between AD800 and 1000, Montone is a working village, now officially recognised as Uno dei Borghi più belli d'Italia, "One of the Most Beautiful Towns in Italy".  After 10 weeks in Montone we then travel to Venice for a few days then back to Paris to return our car and home.

Route taken on our 2005 tripAustralia 2005 Trip  Well after a few years break from our round Australia travels we were back in the saddle and off again.  This time undertaking a similar route to our year 2000 trip.  We departed on May 1, heading north through Ouyen, Burra and Roxby Downs to Coober Pedy.  From there up the Stuart Highway to Alice Springs then on to Katherine.  We then head due west through Kununurra, to Broome. We booked a cruise on the Kimberley Quest II travelling through the Buccaneer Archipelago and the Bonaparte Archipelago spending 8 days exploring many of the Kimberley region’s islands and inland waterways.   On return to Broome we headed north up the Dampier Peninsula to revisit Middle Lagoon and Cape Leveque.

We journeyed south through to Perth along the coast with a short detour into the Pilbara region to visit Karijini National Park then back to the coast and on to Exmouth.  From there we continued our southward journey to Perth, around to Albany via the coast, across the Nullabor and then back home to Melbourne.

Again we traveled with our caravan and the back of the Toyota Prado set up with all our camping gear.  At different times during the trip, we stored the caravan and took off to experience camping life.  Our biggest camping trip was the Gibb River Road with shorter camping trips to Ayers Rock, Kings Canyon, the Macdonnell Ranges, El Questro and the Dampier Peninsula.  Total trip distance was 22,000 km and took 5 months.

Our trip took us from Ballarat to Echuca, along the Kidman Way taking in Griffith, Cobar and Bourke. Into Queensland along the Matilda Highway passing through Cunnamulla, Charleville, Longreach, Winton to Mt Isa. Across into the Northern Territory and up to Katherine. After some R&R in Katherine we headed for Kununurra which was our base for about two weeks. From this base we ventured into the eastern half of The Kimberley as well as into the Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles). We then head over to Derby which we used as a base for covering the western half of The Kimberly. On to Broome for a couple of weeks and up to Cape Leveque before starting to head south towards Perth. From Perth down to Albany, Esperance, back up to Kalgoorlie then across the Nullabor to Port Lincoln. From Port Lincoln across to Broken Hill, Mildura and then home. 5 1/2 months on the road and 25,000km. A great adventure
